Innovative space-saving furniture
According to statistics, we are increasingly living in smaller homes, whether because our budget doesn’t allow for more, for convenience, or simply because we don’t need more living space. This new trend requires new solutions from a furniture perspective.
This is where designers and industrial engineers come in with innovative new ideas where the furniture not only adapts but also maintains its functionalities intact.
We want to review some ideas, concepts, and designs that give a new and fresh perspective to traditional furniture.
1.- Roll Out table
While it’s nice to be able to host a few guests for dinner, when we live in a small apartment, it’s not always so easy or feasible. And that’s where designer Marcus Voraa, based in Oslo, comes in. He has designed the Roll Out table, an idea that is quite surprising, to be honest!…
The concept is to use the telescopic technique at one end of the table, allowing it to extend from 1.5 meters to 4. It’s a “blind” style mechanism with its corresponding steel crank that provides us with greater length while the legs housed at the other end of the gear change position.
Of course, as an idea for our small office, it’s ideal, and remember to review the article guide to buying office furniture, you won’t regret it!
2.- The multi-shelf
The ShiftT project is simply an extremely intelligent and flexible shelving system. The idea is that we have a panel that, in addition to being acoustic, can have different shelves in a matter of seconds in an easy way.
Obviously, for small spaces, it is very useful. A panel made of recycled textile waste compacted by a special technique from the textile and fashion industry. No element is needed to mount the shelves as they are extracted from the same vertical wall through a folding system.
3.- The chairs with a lot of art
The free space occupied by additional seats in a restaurant, in our kitchen (See ideas for designing kitchens) or in the dining room of a small home, is every owner’s nightmare. To solve this headache, the Spanish architecture studio Flores Taller de Arquitectura created an ingenious solution: a cabinet to store chairs that also acts as a decorative piece.
A pair of chairs was designed that can be stacked to form a single geometric unit and aesthetically respond more to a piece of art than a conventional chair.
The chairs combined with a cabinet that matches their design clearly provide an elegant aesthetic without disturbing the house’s decor. A brilliant idea!
4.- Hiding furniture
From the design studio Orla Reynolds, they propose hiding different pieces of furniture in a fun way that also provides a pleasant aesthetic.
Remember the article on how to decorate a dining room with good ideas because we can make good combinations of furniture.
5.- The folding chair
A chair may express art while being functional and literally not be a nuisance. This is the idea of this surprising piece of folding chair that captivates with its simplicity, practicality, and literally deceives at first glance. We can now have many pieces of furniture in small spaces that look good, all we need is to take them off the wall to use them.
The industrial project of De-dimension designed by Jongha Choi is framed in an in-depth study of the relationship between the 2D image and its 3D representation through industrial design whose technical solution is impeccable for converting folding chairs, tables, or stools that we see in flat version, in 2D hanging on the wall, into versatile pieces when assembled in three dimensions.
6.- Renewing the traditional bench
In this case, we present a piece of furniture adapted to modern life. Designer Raskl presents a functional bench for the interior of homes that expands to fit any length according to our needs.
Its classic style and mix of materials are perfect for any interior and it is available in a selection of timeless colors.
7.- When we only need one piece of furniture
Especially suitable for “micro” apartments. From designer Moormann, the idea is to have a single functional and useful piece of furniture in the form of a cube that replaces the small set of pieces every home needs.
In the cube, all the important areas and needs of the home are represented; sleeping, eating, working, and reading are organized on the outer faces, while inside, essential items are housed, as well as a wardrobe.
Curious the top part where we find a bed with storage options on its edge, in addition to different connections for electronic devices.
8.- The perfect barbecue
If you live in a city and have a terrace of significant dimensions, then it doesn’t matter much what the barbecue takes up, but if we have a small terrace, here we have a problem. The salvation is called Sigmafocus from the Focus Chimeneas house.
We found it such a great idea that it was necessary to include it in this article. Composed of a foldable steel brazier, once closed, the Sigmafocus occupies a much smaller volume compared to traditional barbecues without compromising design.
It is aesthetic in its two positions (closed or open), practical with several positions for grilling, and easy to install on any wall (2 fixing points). The ash collector has the capacity for several successive uses before being emptied, in addition to a fixed wall disc to protect the wall against smoke.
And you can also see two articles of interest; Some very green ecological furniture and everything you need to know about recycled pallets for furniture.
